Design Offices: Flexible temporary working environments with wireless lighting control

Flexible spaces – flexible lighting control

Design Offices is one of the leading providers of coworking spaces in Germany. At around 50 locations in 15 cities, modern, fully equipped work environments have been set up to meet different needs – from individual and group offices to medium-sized loft and lounge areas to larger rooms such as conference or lecture rooms.

All rooms can be changed flexibly: The walls can be moved, the desks can be set up in new areas, and the other furniture is also mobile. The lighting needed to be just as flexible. Therefore, the wireless Casambi system was chosen for the lighting control, and AIMOTION was allowed to supply components for several locations.

Light as a feel-good factor at work, too

Lighting designer Alexander Veiel had the task of designing the various lighting concepts depending on the use of the space. This included the ratio of direct to indirect light, the different lighting moods and colors, the control points via wall switches and presence detection using sensors.

“Design Offices create spaces in which people feel comfortable, and lighting control plays a key role in this”, says Veiel. “Casambi’s wireless lighting control is perfectly suited to what we wanted to achieve and is the reason why we chose it.”

Presence detectors reduce energy consumption

The entire lighting control system in the offices is wireless. Instead of wired wall switches, AIMOTION Switch 55 push-buttons and Xpress switches are used, which employees can also use as mobile remote controls.

To keep energy consumption as low as possible, presence detectors have also been installed so that a room is only lit when it is actually being used.

Updates „over the air“

Casambi was also chosen because the system is future-proof thanks to its Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. All functions can be updated “over the air”, i.e. wirelessly, so that every project is always state of the art.

For Alexander Veiel, the focus is on people – also in the workplace: “Light always has the task of serving people. It’s about enabling people to exploit their full potential in terms of creativity, enjoyment and finding solutions. Light and lighting control are a key factor in this.”
